We are seeking a skilled and experienced Head Barista to join our team at Riverside East. As the Head Barista, you will lead our coffee service operations, ensuring exceptional quality and customer satisfaction. You’ll be responsible for managing a team of baristas, maintaining stock control, and upholding our venues standards of excellence, greeting all people of the community with a smile.

Responsibilities:

Coffee Preparation:

  • Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based beverages, pour-over coffee, and other specialty drinks.

  • Ensure consistent adherence to recipes and brewing techniques.

Customer Service:

  • Provide excellent customer service and handle customer inquiries and complaints professionally.

  • Train and supervise baristas on customer interaction and service standards.

Team Leadership:

  • Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance baristas’ skills and knowledge.

  • Strong communication skills, ensuring a smooth workflow

Quality Control:

  • Oversee coffee bean selection, storage, and freshness.

  • Monitor beverage quality and ensure all drinks meet our café’s standards.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain inventory of coffee beans, syrups, and other cafe supplies.

  • Place orders for coffee and supplies as needed to ensure the cafe is fully stocked

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Ensure all coffee equipment is cleaned and properly maintained.

  • Arrange for repairs or replacements when necessary.

Menu Development:

  • Collaborate with management on developing and updating the café’s coffee menu.

  • Introduce seasonal drinks and promotions.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Uphold cleanliness and sanitation standards in the café.

Requirements:

Proven experience as a barista, with at least 1 year in a supervisor role

In-depth knowledge of coffee brewing methods and latte art techniques.

Strong customer service skills with a friendly and approachable demeanor.

Ability to train and mentor staff effectively.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Understanding of inventory management and ordering processes.

Knowledge of health and safety regulations.

Flexible schedule, including early morning starts, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification from a recognized barista training program.

Experience in creating and implementing coffee training

Familiarity with POS systems and basic computer skills.
